In modern workshops, wood working machines are used instead of hand tools. Machines have following advantages over the hand tools:
1. More production.
2. Less fatigue to workers.
3. Saving in time.

Wood working lathe
A wood working lathe consists of a cast iron bed, a head stock, tail stock, tool rest, live and dead centers and driving mechanisms. It is used for producing round symmetrical jobs. Scrapping tools, chisels and turning gauge are used as turning tool on a wood working lathe.
Circular saw
It is generally used for cross cutting of the wood. Other operations like grooving, rebating, tenoning, chamfering, tapering etc. are performed on this machine. The wood is fed against a rotating cutter.
Thickness planner
Band saw
It consists of table, guide, pulleys, belt and tension adjusting screw. It is used to saw the wooden pieces length wise. Fence is used to adjust the thickness of cutting strip. A band type cutter revolves over the two pulleys.
